World football governing body Fifa has directed the All Nepal Football Association (Anfa) to reinstate four of its suspended officials and hold fresh elections. After Fifa Ethics Committee suspended disgraced Anfa President Ganesh Thapa for 10 years on November 16 last year, the Nepali football governing body has seen no change in its leadership with Narendra Shrestha, who is not an executive member, leading as the acting president. Thapa was also slapped with a fine of 20,000 Swiss francs while his appeal against the ban was also rejected by Fifa on April 22. In the letter written to Anfa which was received on May 10, Fifa has also given a May 23 deadline to reinstate the four officials suspended “for not attending the executive committee meeting for four consecutive times” despite repeated calls. Anfa had said it dismissed vice-president trio Karma Tshering Sherpa, Bijaya Narayan Manandhar and Kishor Rai along with executive committee member Pankaj Nembang for not showing up at the meetings. “Fifa has told us that their dismissal was not according to statute and directed us to reinstate them by May 23 by completing due procedures and hold elections for new president as soon as possible,” informed Anfa Chief Executive Officer Indraman Tuladhar on TuesdayTuladhar, however, said Anfa would oblige to the Fifa directive but added there were complications in implementing it within the given time. A three-member Nepali delegation led by acting president Shrestha is currently in Mexico City to attend the Fifa Congress and Tuladhar said the complications will be discussed there. “We are asked to reinstate the four officials according to the statute. But it has the provision of giving a 14-day prior to notice to all members to hold the executive meeting. We had calls with the acting president today and he will probably discuss about it in the Congress,” added Tuladhar. “Additionally, the vice-president trio had also challenged the decision to dismiss them at the court. With the case still in the Appellate Court, we are not sure whether we can reinstate them or not,” he said adding Fifa’s further concern was with Anfa not holding the general assembly.
